The pandemic and the Covid vaccine have yet again broached upon the controversies of vaccines mandates and personal choice. Healthcare has been down this road before with the flu vaccine and its healthcare workers. Healthcare organizations have set the precedent; if this is where you choose to work – unless you have a valid exemption the flu vaccine is mandated. Granted no one likes to be told what to do but when you work for an organization your choices are limited, you have rules to abide by, and in return you get paid. Ultimately, it’s their shop, their rules. Recently, the Supreme Court also sided with the government and healthcare organizations in a 5-4 vote reaffirming the right of healthcare institutions to continue vaccine mandates whether from the government or under their own initiative. When your choice doesn’t align with your organization’s rules, are you prepared for your what next?
In episode 91 of Licensed To Live, I outlined a strategy for moving on. Afterall, the vaccine mandate might just be ONE of your reasons to leave. Whatever the reason you decide to leave; you must get a strategy in place to move on. It just might be YOUR opportunity to make a change, resurge, refresh, restart, and do something new.
Before you make the choice to leave your job, try these tips:
- Take inventory – Look at everything that you like about your current job and everything that you dislike about it.
- Look to your heart – Let your passion and purpose drive you! Your heart will guide you, listen to it. Don’t go down the same path twice and learn from your mistakes.
- Don’t forget long term goals– what does life look like 5,10, 15 years from now? Short term goals are important, but only if they directly tie to your long-term goals. Do not short sight yourself.
- Invest in yourself – use your gifts and skills to build up your credibility. Don’t be afraid to get some help; you don’t know how to do everything. Invest in yourself, invest in your life, invest in your future, invest in your future happiness!
I hate to say, “I told you so,” but I put out that episode back in October of 2021 so that you would be prepared for this ultimate reality. Use the strategies outlined in this blog and others so that you remain Licensed To Live.
