What do you do when you can’t do it anymore? There may be some deep down passion that you have suppressed for years because you haven’t had time to think about the issue. The problem is that we have been focusing all of our attention fighting COVID19 and trying to stay safe. However, we all need balance in life and why shouldn’t you have it? It may not require a quit from medicine, but it may lead to a better balance in a hybrid model. If nothing else, get someone to help you think about it like a trusted friend, advisor, or a professional.
I hear the stories from docs all over the country. Some of my clients are wearily fighting the battle against COVID19 and others have started businesses outside of healthcare and are looking to assist in any way they can. At any rate as devastating as this pandemic is, it will have lingering effects on our lives for a long time to come. We must prepare ourselves for a post COVID19 world. I am also doing the same. For instance, my media appearances are going remote; the stages that I booked have been cancelled or have become virtual stages. Luckily, it won’t stop me from launching my newest book Licensed To Live: Daily Affirmtions for Rebuilding Your Life.
What do you do when you can’t do it anymore? After spending time thinking about your options it is time to develop your exit strategy. What will you do? Maybe it is a simple as just getting yourself into a long vacation. Perhaps you need a less intensive setting. Maybe add a little more teaching and take away something else. It could be…ANYTHING.
As you are pondering your options there is one step you should take. Make preparations, as you would prepare for that long vacation. You have to prepare by packing, paying the bills before you leave, finishing your charts, closing your accounts, and more. In this case, you should consider one of my 7 R’s for career transition. This R is for Recalibrate. You should recalibrate your finances. In preparing for this journey, you need to do things that will take off the financial strain of transition. This could mean saving more and bolstering your accounts. Perhaps it could be holding off on that new car, kitchen remodel, or some other big ticket item. You don’t want to worry about car payments or the new flooring that you put in a year ago (no payments for a year…now the year is up.) You know, the stuff you thought that you couldn’t live without.
R is for recalibrate. With today’s market crashes, it may be prudent to look at every part of your life and your expenses. Take a good look and see what you can cut back. Do you need cable, Apple TV, Netflix and Disney plus? You should go down each of your expenses and take a good look. Make a budget, yes a budget.
Get yourself ready for the transition. Take this first R and recalibrate. There are about 6 more R’s that I talk about in Licensed To Live: A Primer to Rebuilding Your Life After Your Career Is Shattered. However, if you are feeling like you have had enough of your current job. If you feel that it is time for you to do something else with your life, you feel like you want to actually start living again, you want to be free; make an appointment to talk to me at timewithdoctorjarret.com.
