What Is Your Endgame?

What Is Your Endgame? June 5, 2021

Are you destined to work in clinics and hospitals for the rest of your life? Are you planning on riding out the next 10, 20, 30 years grinding away in a profession that you are good at but not happy? If so, then you do not need to read this blog; good luck to you. If you know there is something better out there for you, please read on.

Most people have the concept that retirement comes at the end of a long and illustrious working career. For many this is true, but I have seen far too many people die within 6 months to 2 years of retirement. They spent all their life working hard to finally be able to retire and had no time left to enjoy the time. Let’s face it; you have time to enjoy life now, why don’t you? You can start with these 3 tips.

  • Enjoy the moment now. While you still have health and the ability to do the things you want. Take time to enjoy a mini retirement now. Take 2 weeks off; two real weeks off. Do not check emails, texts, or answer work related calls. Take this time to truly unplug by yourself or with your loved ones. Commit to ‘going off the grid’ so that you have time to unwind and refocus on what is important in life.
  • Start having your work serve you and not you serving your work. Take inventory of the things that you do in your everyday job that are not serving you well. Look for opportunities to address systemic changes that can make life better for all. When your job serves you, your work life becomes better.
  • Create ideas and additional streams of income. Create additional streams of income that will not require a lot of your time down the road. Look at real estate, investments, product creation, or selling your expertise. These methods can help you find more enjoyment out of life and help reach retirement even faster. Retirement in the traditional sense does not have to be delayed. You deserve to live a life that suits your needs, not someone else’s.
